Real Girl Trends With Liv Dolls

Fashion Dolls Are Introduced
Barbie has been an American icon, practically since she was created, in 1959 by Ruth Handler. The original Barbie was named after Ruth's daughter Barbara. Ken was introduced in 1960 and was named after Ruth's son Ken.
It didn't take long for Barbie to take off and become the fashion doll icon of the 1960's and beyond. Before Barbie's introduction most dolls were baby dolls. The charm of Barbie was that she was an adult fashion model. She wore designer clothes and had many different careers.
Girls could relate with playing with Barbie because they could pretend she was a real woman with a real life. Plus dressing her up in designer cloths was a great new way to play. Barbie was marketed with a 1960's television add campaign and the rest is history.
In spite of being the first and most popular fashion doll, Barbie has received some ridicule. The common complaint is that she promotes an unrealistic body image. With the dolls original dimensions if she were a real woman she would be about 5'9" with a 36" chest, an 18" waist, and 33" hips.
In 1965 Slumber Party Barbie even came with a diet book that said not to eat and came with a pink scale set at 110 pounds. Barbie has put up with a lot of flack over the years and her waist has even been widened in more recent dolls.
Moxie Girlz
Bratz And Moxie Girlz
The introduction of Bratz gave Barbie a run for her money. But the Bratz dolls also portrayed a less than stellar example for young girls who would play with them. They were a little less like perfect super models. But they were still Bratz.
When Moxie Girlz emerged they did a much better job at making the dolls realistic and setting a better example. Another nice thing about the Moxie Girlz is that their arms and legs are pose able. They can be posed doing all kinds of activities. You can even use them to make stop motion videos and make them dance.
Liv Dolls Are Here
The new girls on the block are the Liv Dolls. These dolls are the brainchild of the folks at Spinmaster the same company that created the popular game Bakugan. The Liv Dolls are more like real girls than the other dolls. They are pose able and their proportions are more normal.
The thing that makes the Liv Dolls unique is that they each have unique talents but they also have flaws. Katie is a master skateboarder. But when she is not on her board she is clumsy and even trips crossing the street.
Daniel takes her music very seriously, and she will perform wherever she can, including the local coffee shop, at school dances, and a nearby retirement home. She is talented and concerned about her music and yet she finds the time to volunteer and help out.
Alexis loves fashion. She hopes to one day launch her own fashion line, but for now her fashion advice is confined to her close circle of friends. Sophie wants to be a hairstylist someday. Just like Alexis she practices her latest hair styles on her friends. Just hope that she is wearing her glasses when she does your hair or you may end up in trouble.
With current trends moving towards more realistic fashion dolls and better role models and examples by these imaginary characters. Liv Dolls have definitely got it right.

These dolls sound pretty nice. I like the fact that you can move their arms and legs and make stop action videos with them. The wigs are kind of good but kind of weird too.
